Trinity GESE Grade 5 (B1)

Free GESE Grade 5 speaking rehearsal

Rehearse the published Trinity GESE Grade 5 format with an AI examiner: discuss your own topic, then talk about two everyday subjects. Afterwards, get our estimated grade for each part.

This is independent practice from B1English, not a Trinity product. Our estimated grades use a transcript of your answers. They don't assess pronunciation or fully assess spoken fluency, and they don't predict your official result. One free rehearsal every seven days, or unlimited rehearsals with the B1 plan.

1. Your topic form

In the real test you bring a topic form: a title and five discussion points. The examiner asks you about at least four of them, in any order. Choose something personal, like your job, a trip or a hobby, not one of the six conversation subjects.

2. Before you start

  • Find a quiet place and use headphones if you can, so the microphone doesn't pick up the examiner.
  • The rehearsal takes about 10 minutes. When the examiner stops talking, the microphone opens. Press Done speaking (or the space bar) when you've finished your answer.
  • Ask the examiner at least one question in each part. Trinity expects it.

How the real GESE Grade 5 test works

It's a 10-minute, one-to-one conversation with a Trinity examiner by video call, in two parts.

  • Topic phase, up to 5 minutes. The examiner picks points from your topic form and asks you about them. It's a discussion, not a presentation.
  • Conversation phase, up to 5 minutes. The examiner chooses two of six subjects: festivals, means of transport, special occasions, entertainment, music, and recent personal experiences. You need to be ready for all six. Your knowledge isn't tested, only your English.

Each part gets a grade from A to D. Two Ds fail; any other pair passes. AA and AB are a Distinction, and AC, BB and BC a Merit.

How to prepare your topic form

  • Five points, one short phrase each. Trinity's sample form for "My career" uses points like "Why I decided on this career" and "What I plan to do in the future".
  • Make every point a real subject. Points like "Introduction" or "What I did next" aren't allowed, because the examiner asks about them in any order.
  • Don't learn a script. Reciting counts against you. Know what you want to say, and say it in your own words.
  • Bring the form. Without a completed topic form you can't take the test.
  • Use Grade 5 English: "I've worked here for three years", "I'd rather...", "because...", "next year I'll...".
