Privacy policy
This explains what we collect when you use b1english.co.uk, why, and what you can ask us to do. Last updated 20 October 2026.
Who we are
B1English is a trading name of Net Werth Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 12718042, registered office International House, 64 Nile Street, London, N1 7SR. Net Werth Ltd also runs B2English and is the data controller for everything described here. Contact: hello@b1english.co.uk.
The speaking rehearsal
When you use the GESE Grade 5 rehearsal, each spoken turn is turned into text so the examiner can reply and your rehearsal can be graded. The audio isn't stored. We keep the text of the rehearsal, your topic and points, and the grades, linked to a random identifier in your browser, so we can show your result and apply the free weekly limit (we also use your IP address for that limit, and clear it after eight days). If something goes wrong, the page reports which step failed and your browser and operating system type, so we can fix it. We don't use your voice to identify you.
Your account and purchase
If you buy the B1 plan or sign in, we keep your email address, your plan and its dates, which devices are signed in, and a record of your purchase. Payment is taken by Stripe; we never see your card details. We use this to give you access, send your sign-in links and answer questions about your purchase.
Practice and mock tests
When you take a diagnostic, practice set or mock test, we keep your answers, the text of what you said, your marks and the feedback, so you can see your progress. Spoken answers are turned into text for marking and the audio isn't stored. For PTE practice only, the recording is also sent for a pronunciation score, because PTE is machine-scored in the real test. We don't use your voice to identify you.
Why we may use your data
We need your account, purchase and practice data to provide the plan you bought (performance of a contract). We rely on our legitimate interests to provide free diagnostics, free full mocks and free rehearsals, send the sign-in links needed for free mocks, show your results, apply free-use limits, keep the service secure and investigate technical faults. We keep purchase records because tax law requires it (legal obligation).
Counting visits
We count page views (the page, the site you came from, your country and device type) without cookies and without storing an identifier, so the counts can't be linked to you.
Who else sees your data
| Supplier | What they do for us | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Runs the website, stores rehearsal results and alerts, transcribes and voices the rehearsal, counts page views | At the location nearest you, usually the UK or EU |
| Stripe | Takes your payment and holds your card details | EU and USA |
| Microsoft Azure AI Speech | Scores pronunciation for PTE practice recordings, without keeping them for us | UK (UK South) |
| Anthropic | Writes the rehearsal examiner's replies and marks spoken answers from their transcripts | USA |
| Resend | Sends sign-in links and purchase emails | USA |
Suppliers acting as our processors handle personal data on our instructions, subject to their contracts with us. Stripe also acts as an independent controller for some payment processing, fraud prevention and legal compliance activities. Its privacy policy explains those uses. Transfers to the USA are covered by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the standard contractual clauses. Email hello@b1english.co.uk to request a copy of the safeguards used for international transfers.
How long we keep things
- Rehearsal transcripts, topics, discussion points, grades and associated identifiers: deleted within 24 months of the rehearsal. IP addresses: cleared after eight days.
- Technical fault reports from the rehearsal page: 90 days.
- Paid accounts, answers and results: kept until 24 months after access ends, then deleted. For accounts that have only used free features, account details, answers and results are deleted within 24 months of the last use. The separate rehearsal, technical-report and payment-record periods listed here still apply.
- Payment records: six years from the end of the accounting period, because HMRC requires it.
- Sign-in links: three days.
- Speech recordings: not kept at all.
