IELTS Life Skills B1

IELTS Life Skills B1: live practice test

In the real test you're with an examiner and another candidate. Here an AI examiner runs the test and an AI partner, Sam, takes the other candidate's place, so you can practise asking questions, listening and planning together. It takes about 22 minutes.

Independent practice from B1English, not an IELTS product. Your result is our estimate from a transcript of what you said, so pronunciation isn't judged, and it doesn't predict your official result. One free live test every seven days, or unlimited with the B1 plan.

Before you start

  • Find a quiet place and use headphones if you can, so the microphone doesn't pick up the voices.
  • When it's your turn the microphone lights up and your words appear as you speak. For short answers, just stop talking and the test moves on; for longer talks, press I've finished.
  • You'll talk with Sam as well as the examiner. Ask Sam questions too: the real test expects it.

How the real test works

  • Phase 1a: the examiner asks you about yourself, then you and the other candidate ask each other questions.
  • Phase 1b: after a minute to prepare, you each talk for about a minute and a half, and ask each other questions about the talks.
  • Phase 2a: you listen to short recordings and answer the examiner's questions.
  • Phase 2b: you plan something together, then discuss a related topic.

The result is Pass or Fail. Compare the four B1 tests.
